Hello and welcome to techpidia! My name is waris and this is our unboxing of Vivo V17 and its first look.
Vivo launched V17 Pro a while back, in which we saw, for the first time, a Dual Pop-up selfie camera.
and this time too, Vivo has launched a very interesting product.
In which we are witnessing for the first time a phone by Vivo, in which a hole-punch display is given. We had seen these hole punch displays before in Samsung phones, especially in S10 lineup and Note 10 line up And now we are noticing the same thing, in the mid-range market segment.
The retail price of the phone gives Rs 60,000/- And from today onwards, meaning from 7th December 2019 you can preorder it. by Vivo’s flagship store which is on daraz.pk And the takeaway features of this phone are a hole-punch camera, huge RAM, huge storage, a big battery, and a quad-camera setup. That’s enough with the intro, lets move towards the unboxing now.
Keep watching! If you are new, then subscribe to our web and turn on the notifications.
And we are on Instagram now as well so follow us @reviews_pk So guys, some specs are mentioned over the box, our today’s device comes with 8GB RAM and 256GB built-in storage. And some features of this phone are highlighted on the back. A 48MP AI Quad Camera, Ultra O screen, which is the hole-punch display, a 32MP front camera and a super night mode.
Let’s open this box now. First of all, we will take off this plastic over the box. Let’s break the seal now and let’s remove this lid. There is this folder at the topmost which has a V17 branding on it. And inside this, there is a USB Type-C Cable, some user manuals that are in Urdu and I always give extra points to Vivo for localization. Along with it, there is a SIM Ejector Tool and a silicon protective case. If we move forwards, here is the handset of Vivo V17. But before having a closer look at it, let’s check out the remaining contents of the box. There is a Dual Engine Fast Charging brick in the box, which will charge the phone on 18W, and a handsfree headset.
Let’s remove the plastic over the handset now and take a look at it closely. If we talk about design and build, there is a pre-applied screen protector at the front of the phone whereas the back, and the rail in the centre is of plastic. Yes, guys, there is no Gorilla glass build here. The back is made quite shiny, in fact, it was difficult to control the reflections while taking shots of this phone.
Because of this shiny back, it looks like glass. If we talk about the button placements, on the right side of the phone, volume rockers and Power & Screen On/Off buttons are placed whereas, on the left side there is the SIM tray. And at the bottom side, headphone jack, mic, USB Type-C port and the speaker grill are present. If we move towards the display, a 6.44 inches Super AMOLED Display is given in Vivo V17 which has a Full HD 1080 x 2400 resolution and the pixel density is 409 PPI.
Whereas the Aspect Ratio is slightly longer 20:9. Top and side bezels are reasonably slim, whereas the chin is comparatively a little wider. And there is neither any notch in this display, nor there is any pop-up selfie camera in it. In fact, in this phone, as mentioned earlier, there is a hole punch cutout. Guys this hole punch cutout is the unique selling point of Vivo V17, and most competitors in this price range are coming with a pop-up selfie camera right now.
Which is, indeed, a preference-based thing but there are few people among you who do not like pop selfie cameras on the basis of durability and endurance. Along with that, in this display, an in-display fingerprint sensor is also present. And on first look, the speed of this display seems really decent to me. The phone is unlocking quite easily. Let’s talk about specifications and internals now. A Qualcomm Snapdragon 675 chipset is given in Vivo V17 which is based on an 11nm architecture, along with Adreno 612 GPU. There are 8GB RAM and 256GB built-in storage in the phone.
And there is a full dual SIM support in it which means you can insert two SIMs and a microSD card up to 256GB, all together in this phone. Along with it, there is a USB Type-C port on the phone. Which is true, a great thing because many people demand in this price range, that USB Type-C must be present so that their devices will be future proof and they could use the same cable across different devices. If we talk about the interface, there is Android 9.0 pie in V17 over which Vivo’s FuntouchOS 9.2 is given. FuntouchOS is basically inspired by Apple iOS therefore you get all your icons on your home screen. Besides that, menus also look similar to Apple’s and the control center also open from the bottom of the screen.
Whereas in Android, it is usually opened from the top. If we talk about the camera, in V17, there is a quad-camera setup at the back which includes a 48MP wide-angle lens of f/1.8 aperture, an 8MP Ultra-wide lens of f/2.2 aperture, a 2MP Macro camera and a 2MP depth sensor for blurred background and portrait effects. On the front side, in this hole punch cutout, there is a 32MP wide-angle selfie shooter of f/2.0 aperture. Back and front camera, both, supports maximum 1080p at 30 frames per second Video Recording Resolution.
This thing will appeal very much to those people who don’t have their trusts in pop-up selfie cameras on the basis of durability. Since there are moving parts in pop-up selfie cameras motor, rails and other things like that, therefore its chance of failure is considered slightly high. However, in displays like hole punch cutouts, there are no moving parts but still, you can get an ‘almost notchless’ kind of experience. If we talk about the battery, a 4,500 mAh huge battery is given in V17, and along with that, in the phone, Vivo’s Dual Engine Fast Charging is also present which will charge the phone on 18W.
Now, I will surely perform some in-depth testing of this phone in the upcoming days, in which I will test its cameras, its performance, its battery its charging-discharging speeds, then I will report back with its full review.
What are your thoughts on Vivo V17? What are the things that you liked about it? or the one that you didn’t like? Do share with me in the comment section below. I think Vivo V17 is an interesting offering, in Rs 60,000/- price range because right now, in this price range, phones with hole-punch displays are rarely seen.
So this is a very interesting choice. And I think that there are many other people that feel hole-punch displays to be more trendy. In the end, it is a preference-based thing, so I am interested to know how you all receive it. Along with this, the success of this phone, I think, will depend upon its camera as well.
So, we would have to see how well the camera performs? That is all for this article, I hope you liked it. Like always, don’t forget to like, share and subscribe. I will meet you in the next article. Goodbye!
